Internship Site: Arbor Trace Senior Living

Primary Responsibilities

Learning Objectives

Assist and plan recreational activities for residents to get them engaged and active.
Accompany the Social Services Director and Admissions and Marketing Director in meetings.
Help with charting care plans and conducting activity assessments for residents.
Assist the Admissions and Marketing Director with admissions paperwork.

During my time at Arbor Trace, I have learned a lot and feel very prepared for my future career in long-term care. I have been able to see the daily functions of multiple managers and see how the nursing home functions on a daily basis. Most importantly, I have built personal connections through this internship as well as professional connections.

Personal Development

I have been able to build a lot of connections and meet a lot of new people during my time at Arbor Trace. I was also able to build connections with residents and their families, which is something I will cherish forever. I was able to build my customer service skills during this internship which will help me tremendously in my future career.

Academic Connections

PBHL-H 245 Professionalism in the Healthcare Workplace is a course that I believe helped me prepare for my internship. It taught me professional skills that I was able to take to my internship. PBHL-H 120 Health Care Delivery in the U.S. is another course that helped me prepare as well. This course taught me a lot about Medicare and Medicaid and sparked my interest in long-term care.
